If you are like me, then you probably can’t wait to get your hands on the firmware updates for your Apple products! You’re probably also paranoid about the stability and security of the OS and thus, may not have considered installing a beta update. But, worry not! The GM versions are out? A few of you might be going, “What on earth is a GM version?”. Well, GM stands for Golden Master, and it is the last beta update before the public release of the firmware. Fun Fact: the public release is the same version as the GM. Beta testers can get their hands on the final firmware a week earlier than the public. No fair! So, I decided to get myself the GM versions. And, here is a little tutorial to help those who want to do the same.
STEPS TO GET GM
- Update iTunes on your Mac or PC. Don’t know how? Click here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201352
- Backup your device. Backup Instructions:
- Sign up for the public beta: https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
- Read the instructions on the beta website and follow them!
A few of you might think “That’s it?”. Yep, that’s all there is to it. Just 4 steps to getting the latest firmware on your devices! I’ve been using these versions for more than 4 days and counting, and it is as stable as the previous version, and I’m yet to discover any issues. If there are any, I will update the article! So, stay tuned, update your devices and share your thoughts and feedback in the comments below!
Amendment: Removed watchOS for public beta and included tvOS 11.
